8/11-8/15

Monday

Today is a Smart Start day.

Tuesday

syllabus, 25-26 school year
Students created a name tag so the teacher could learn a little more about them. After, the teacher went over the syllabus with the students. Please turn in your signed copy of the syllabus on Monday, the 18th. Students also participated in a Summer News Quiz. It was not worth any points and just for candy.

Wednesday

who discovered america packet
Students received the "Who Discovered America" Packet. Individually, students will take notes on a separate sheet of paper on the different people and/or groups who claim to have discovered America. 1-2 bullet points of information will be fine for each section. When finished, please hang onto the notes. You'll need them for the rest of the week.

Thursday

Students will put themselves into groups of 4 and create a poster as to who they think deserves the credit for discovering America. Students will create a poster using a piece of butcher paper (this will be provided for you) explaining who they think deserves credit for the discovery of America and why. The poster must have the following:
  • Title (“Who Discovered America?”)
  • Theory (e.g. “We believe ________ deserves the credit for the founding of America.”)
  • Selected documents/evidence to support your theory
  • Visuals to help illustrate your theory
Students will have the period to complete the poster and some time tomorrow in class. Presentations will begin tomorrow.

Friday

Students will be given time to finish up their posters and begin presenting. If presentations are not completed today, they will be completed Monday. EVERY student must talk, however, one person can be in charge of completing most of the presentation. Each student will need to say their name and a random fact about themselves (Ex: I have broken 3 bones, I'm a twin, I have 10 siblings, etc.) The rubric for the poster/presentation is as follows:

Who got credit: ______________________
Evidence: _____
Picture: ______
Everyone Spoke: ______________
Total: ____/30
