Monday
Students were given the 'Who Discovered America?' packet. Students were to take notes on each of the sections individually (1-2 bullet points per section is fine). If students did not finish, that is OK.

Tuesday
Students will put themselves into groups of 4 and create a poster as to who they think deserves the credit for discovering America. Students will create a poster using a piece of butcher paper (this will be provided for you) explaining who they think deserves credit for the discovery of America and why. The poster must have the following:
- Title (“Who Discovered America?”)
- Theory (e.g. “We believe ________ deserves the credit for the founding of America.”)
- Selected documents/evidence to support your theory
- Visuals to help illustrate your theory
Wednesday
Students will be given time to finish up their posters and begin presenting. If presentations are not completed today, they will be completed tomorrow. EVERY student must talk, however, one person can be in charge of completing most of the presentation. Each student will need to say their name and a random fact about themselves (Ex: I have broken 3 bones, I'm a twin, I have 10 siblings, etc.) The rubric for the poster/presentation is as follows:
Who got credit: ______________________
Evidence: _____
Picture: ______
Everyone Spoke: ______________
Total: ____/30

Thursday
Students turned in their signed copy of the syllabus if they had yet to do so. Each student received a 'Marking the Text/SOAP' bookmark. Please see me if you did not receive one. Follow the directions of the 'How to Complete an Interactive Notebook PPT' to complete the assignments.
If you were absent, I HIGHLY recommend you watch the 'How to Complete an Interactive Notebook Lecture' as that will help guide you through all the steps of putting together your notebook. |
Friday
Students finished the Ted Talk from the day before. Afterwards, the teacher came around to stamp it. Students then filled out all the states and capitals of the United States of America. The map will be stamped by the end of the period on Monday for full credit. The map should be in various colors for full credit. Students will take a test on all the states and capitals on Friday, August 30th. Students will be given a blank map and a word bank of all the states and capitals. The states/capitals will not match on the word bank. Students must know where each state and capital go on the map in order to receive full points for the test.
