April 1-5
On Monday, April 1st, students completed Phocabulary, page 660, #1-14 in the left hand side of their notebook. If they did not finish in class, it needs to be finished for homework. Will be stamped for full credit on Tuesday, April 2nd at the latest.
On Tuesday, April 2, students participated in a simulation about communism, socialism and capitalism. There is no need to make up the simulation. Students then completed the Origins of the Cold War notes in the right hand side of their notebook.

On Wednesday, April 3rd, student completed the Cold War DBQ. Use the packet to answer the questions on the answer sheet. The packet does not need to be annotated. Needs to be stamped by the end of the period.

On Thursday, April 4th, students took and finished notes on the Cold War Heats Up. Afterwards, students worked on the Europe after World War II map. Use page 635 in the textbook to fill out the map. You do not have to use the colors in the book. You can choose your own colors. Should be stamped by Friday, April 5th.

On Friday, April 5th, students took notes on Truman and Ike's Policies in the right hand side of their notebook. Afterwards, students completed a in class activity about Israel and Palestine. It does not need to be made up.

April 8-12
On Monday and Tuesday (April 8th and 9th) students took notes on the Weaponization of Nuclear Technology in the right hand side of their notebook. Afterwards, students completed the Nuclear Fallout Shelter activity. If absent, you'll need to complete the activity on your own. Students also watched an episode of The Twilight Zone related to the idea of a nuclear bomb threat. If interested, it is on Netflix (Season 3, episode 3).

On Wednesday, April 10th, students took notes on JFK Foreign Policy in the right hand side of their notebook. They also completed the Cuban Missile Crisis Worksheet by watching the video to go along with it. These items will be the final items of this weeks notebook check. Notebook Check 6 will be due for 3rd and 5th period on Thursday, April 11th and for 2nd period on Friday, April 12th.

Directions for the Comic Book Assignment are to the left. If you need a half sheet of card stock, I have extras in my classroom. For 3rd and 5th period, this will be due on Monday, April 15th. For 2nd period, this will be due on Tuesday, April 16th.

April 15-18
On Monday, April 15th (3rd and 5th Period) and Tuesday, April 16th (2nd period) students spent the first half of the period working on their comic book assignment and presented it to the class the 2nd half of the period.
On Wednesday, April 17th, students played a game in which they could earn extra credit. If a student was not here, they cannot earn extra credit retroactively. Afterwards, students answered the questions in the left hand side of their notebook. The assignment will be stamped during the next class period. Even students who were not here need to/can answer the questions.

On Thursday, April 18th, 3rd and 5th period completed the Second Red Scare Fill in notes (both sets). Students then read the "Hangman" poem and wrote a paragraph explaining how the poem relates to the Second Red Scare (use the blank space on the second page of the poem to write the paragraph. You will glue in that page to your notebook). Both the "Hangman" assignment and McCarthy questions were stamped for full credit. Afterwards, students were introduced to aspects of 1950s culture by watching a couple episodes of I Love Lucy. There was no reflective activity to go along with it.

April 23-26
On Tuesday, April 23rd, 2nd period completed the Second Red Scare content that was completed by 3rd and 5th period the Thursday before. Please see above for the PPT, fill-in notes and copy of the poem.

On Wednesday, April 23rd, students were assigned the 1950s Facebook Page project. The directions and requirements are in the tab to the left. For 3rd and 5th period, it will be due at the end of the period on Thursday, April 24th. For 2nd period, it will be due at the end of the period on Friday, April 25th. Notebook Check 7 is also due on Thursday for 3rd and 5th period as well as 2nd period on Friday.

April 29
On Monday, April 29th, students watched the first episode of Mad Men. There is no reflective activity to go with it. If you are interested in watching the episode, the show is on Netflix.
