April 30-May 3
On Tuesday, April 30th, students completed Phocabulary, page 766, #1-9 in the left hand side of their notebook. Due to the lockdown, 2nd period will have to complete it has homework, but have until Thursday, May 2nd to have it stamped for full credit. Periods 3 and 5 will have theirs stamped by the end of the period.
On Wednesday, May 1st, students took notes on the Origins of Civil Rights (slides 1-10) in the right hand side of their notebook. The notes will be finished on Friday. Afterwards, students read an excerpt from Warriors Don't Cry, a memoir from Melba Pattillo Beals, the youngest member of the Little Rock Nine. Please read the excerpt (no need to annotate it) and answer the questions in the left hand side of your notebook. Questions will be stamped for full credit.

On Thursday, May 2nd, students were handed back their atomic bomb essays. Students had the opportunity to go through and correct their mistakes to earn ten percent back on their grade. Students were also handed a list of what to look for (Common Essay Errors).
Students were also given a permission slip for Crash. It is a move about racism and prejudice and it is quite intense. If you cannot not watch it or your permission slip is not signed by Tuesday, May 7th, an alternative assignment will be given. |
On Friday, May 3rd, students finished the Origins of Civil Rights Notes (PPT is above, slides 11-17).
May 6-May 10
On Monday, May 6th, students started off the class by taking a literacy test. It was not for credit. After, students filled in part 1 of the Civil Rights Movement fill in notes. Part two will be completed tomorrow. After, students worked on creating their own civil rights movement in the left hand side of their notebook. It will be stamped on Tuesday, May 7th, for full credit.

On Tuesday, May 7th, students completed part 2 of the Civil Rights Fill in notes (power point is above). After, students finished creating their own Civil Rights Movement and it was stamped for full credit. All permission slips for Crash are due by Wednesday, May 8th.

On Wednesday, May 8th, students began watching Crash. To the left are the questions to go with the movie. Students will finish watching Crash on Friday, May 10th. Notebook check 8 will also be due on Friday.

May 13-14
On Monday, May 13th, students were assigned the Racism Today prompt. It must be submitted to turnitin.com by Tuesday, May 14th at 11:59 p.m. I do not need a hard copy. Students will have all day in class on Monday and Tuesday, the 14th, to work on it in class. If you are absent, you do not get extra time for this assignment.
